DREAM-Math Teacher Project: A New Pathway to a Career in Secondary Mathematics Teaching
The Developing, Recruiting, and Empowering Alabama Mathematics (DREAM-Math) Teacher Project at Auburn University will encourage, recruit, and prepare motivated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) graduates and professionals in our region to become secondary (grades 6-12) mathematics teachers. This program will focus on preparing teachers to use high quality mathematics curriculum and discourse-based instruction to support student learning in the secondary mathematics classroom. DREAM-Math scholars will experience a rich, hands-on, inquiry-based teacher preparation program and work closely with teachers, mathematics educators, mathematicians, and students.

We anticipate being able to provide substantial funding for up to 12 DREAM-Math teaching fellows to pursue a master’s degree  in secondary mathematics education leading to certification as a mathematics teacher, beginning May 2022. The program will include at least 36 credit hours and can be completed in 4 semesters (14 months). In addition, we anticipate providing support to help the teaching fellows launch their careers, along with an annual stipend for the first four years of their careers, if they teach in a high-needs school. The DREAM-Math teacher project is intended for STEM majors with at least 15 hours of mathematics courses completed including Calculus I, II, and III.
