Effective May 1, 2016

Please read these Terms of Service (collectively with Auburn University policies and specifically the policies issued by the Offices of the CIO and Information Technology) fully and carefully before using the aub.ie service.

1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

By registering a uniform resource locator (URL) and/or using the service in any manner, including but not limited to visiting, browsing and using the service to shorten a URL, you agree to these Terms of Service and all other operating rules, policies and procedures that may be published, each of which may be updated without notice to you.

2. MODIFICATION

We reserve the right to modify or replace any of these Terms of Service, or change, suspend, or discontinue the aub.ie service (including without limitation, the availability of any feature, database, or content) at any time by posting a notice or by sending you notice via email.

3. ELIGIBILITY

Only Auburn University authenticated users may register URLs to be shortened using the aub.ie service. The aub.ie service is not for the use or benefit of any third party.

4. ACCOUNT SECURITY

You are solely responsible for the activity that occurs on your account, and for keeping your account secure. In accordance with University policy, you are not permitted to use another user’s account with or without their permission.

5. AUB.IE SERVICE

The aub.ie service allows you to shorten and track URLs using the aub.ie domain as the link. As long as you comply with these Terms of Service, you may use the services for personal, non-commercial purposes.

6. AUB.IE METRICS

Certain features of the aub.ie service allow you to collect and track metrics, and generate analytics, related to URLs shortened of which you are an administrator. Aub.ie metrics include, but are not limited to:

  • a history of all URLs shortened by a particular account,
  • a history of all clicks on a shortened URL,
  • a history of referral URLs for clicks of a shortened URL,
  • a history of browser information and statistics for clicks of a shortened URL, and
  • a visual representation of any or all of the above.

You acknowledge and agree that all metrics that are collected and/or generated are owned by Auburn University and that Auburn University has the right to use or otherwise dispose of metrics for any purpose in accordance with the Auburn University Privacy Statement.

7. RULES OF CONDUCT

You agree to not use the aub.ie service for any purpose that is prohibited by these Terms of Service. You are responsible for all of your activity in connection with the aub.ie service. You shall not take any action through the aub.ie service, or redirect to a URL that:

  • infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, right of publicity or other right of any person or entity; or violates any law or contractual duty;
  • is unlawful, such as content that is threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, fraudulent, invasive to another’s privacy, or tortuous;
  • constitutes unauthorized or unsolicited advertising, junk or bulk email (spamming);
  • contains software viruses or other malicious code that is designed or intended to disrupt, damage, limit or interfere with the proper function of any software, hardware, or telecommunications equipment; or to damage or obtain unauthorized access to any system, data, password or other information of aub.ie or any third party;
  • impersonates any person or entity;
  • includes anyone’s personally identifiable information or sensitive financial information; or
  • is otherwise determined by the administrators of aub.ie to be inappropriate at its sole discretion.

The short URLs that are created must not include profanity, defamatory language or the likeness of such items.

You shall not:

8. TERMINATION

Aub.ie administrators reserve the right to terminate your access to all or any part of aub.ie at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, effective immediately, which may result in the forfeiture and destruction of all information associated with your account.

Any shortened URLs may be removed at any time without notification if it is found, reported, or suspected that the shortened URL in question:

  • resolves to a page that is unavailable, such as a 404 Error page;
  • no longer has an administrator that is an active, authenticatable Auburn University individual; or
  • is deemed to be in conflict with these Terms of Service.
